Still here...

So guess where I still am?? Beijing !!  My cousin was supposed to pick me up yesterday but it seems that my uncle needs the car and since he’ll be driving by Beijing today, he’ll just pick me up then.  So good for me!  I got to stay one more day and bug Nars and David!  I also got to see D, her sister Jen, and a few of their friends.  It was nice to see them again.  Jen was so funny!  She entertained us with a few jokes although some aren’t that funny.

Here are some of them, there were more but I forgot!

What’s the difference between a graduated cylinder and a thermometer?

-a graduated cylinder may have graduated, but a thermometer has more degrees

What’s the difference between a porcupine and a BMW?

-BMWs have the pricks on the inside

Why is the math book always upset?

-because it has a lot of problems

I actually don’t want to go back to Tianjin yet because David and Nars just got a satellite dish installed today!! They have all the nice channels like HBO, Disney, star world, star movies, cinemax, AXN!!  They even have Filipino channels like Studio 23!!!  Lucky Nars!!  She’s never gonna go out ever for sure!  David’s so giddy with happiness with their new toy!  Nars woke up late for work today, probably coz she just wants to stay at home today because she’s excited about having cable tv. We’re gonna go eat at Taffi’s later with D, I wonder if we’ll ever start moving to getting ready or just forget about lunch and sit here and watch tv!  I can just imagine mommy Nars and daddy David fighting over what channels to watch!  That should be fun!  Since my uncle hasn’t called me yet to tell me what time he’s picking me up, I hope my uncle will forget I’m still here in Beijing!

Macau

The first pic is the view from our window.  The shower in our bathroom is infront of the toilet.  Then that's our room!

Arrived in Macau without any place to stay for the night since the hostel we found was full and Elaine was only able to get reservations for the next night and the hostel is located in another island!  We decided to visit some hotels that she found online.  The first one was really ugly and the room didn’t have any bathroom so we decided to go to the next hotel on the list which was just a block away from the first.  Since it’s been a long day of traveling and we were tired, we decided to stay at the second hotel.  It’s not a nice hotel, but at least it was better than the first one and we only needed it so we can have a place to leave our stuff and a bed to sleep on anyways.

People kept telling us it’s a dangerous country but Macau is actually a nice city and the people are friendlier than here in Beijing.  It actually reminds me of a bigger Binondo, where people are speaking Chinese everywhere and sometimes Tagalog, there’s even a Caltex there with StarMart!  I wasn’t expecting much from Macau but what was totally unexpected was seeing Filipinos everywhere we went, out on the streets, on the bus, in the restaurants we went to, or in the museums, there they would be, working or shopping or strolling around Macau.

Senate Square

 Church of St. Paul

A-ma Temple

Grand Prix Museum

The Wine Museum

These two museums are connected.   Most of the workers here are Filipinos and one of them actually came from Bacolod.  They’re really friendly, giving us a tour around the museum.  The wine museum gives out free wine tasting to visitors, but since I’m not really fond of alcohol, I didn’t like the wine much; it tasted like yucky medicine to me!  It was a cool museum!

Fire Department Museum

Too bad we were only there for the weekend!  Even though it rained the whole time we were there and kept getting lost while riding the bus, it was so much fun!  There's still so much more to see in Macau!!

Shanghai

Finally, my trip is almost over.  Now all I need to do is go home tomorrow to Tianjin, just two hours of car ride.  Then no more riding planes, boats, or long car rides for awhile. No more packing and unpacking until our next trip which won’t be for a while I hope!  For now, one last overnight stay in Nar’s apartment in Beijing

Woke up early last Wednesday for my trip to Shanghai and said another “see you soon!” to my little buddy, no goodbyes there! (Now here I am back in her apartment!)  Arrived at the airport early only to find out that the driver dropped me off at the wrong part so had to walk all the way to the other part of the airport then had to wait in line for checking in coz it seems lots of people were traveling early that day.  Almost missed my plane coz I just sat there reading a book to pass time when I noticed that they’re still boarding people going to Shenzhen so I got up and asked an airport employee standing on the side and she said “yes, that’s the right gate number”, so I went back down and started chatting with the lady beside me.  After a while, I thought to better check again and this time went to the counter coz it seems they’re still boarding people going to Shenzhen and behold, when I got to the counter there was a paper there with my flight number and a new gate number.  So hurriedly said goodbye to the nice lady beside me and went to the other gate just in time to board the plane.  Yippee!!  Finally in Shanghai!  Got to see the two people I went there to see, my good buddies, achi Babs  and smelly Debs .

Debs picked me up at the airport, and then we went to her apartment where I stayed while I was there, to leave my stuff.  It’s a nice place! Since I don’t really have any particular place that I wanted to go to, Debs and I just hang out or walked around the city during the two days I was there. The area where she lives is full of stores, just lining up enticing Debs to come in and buy stuff!  Then at the end of all these endless rows of stores is the school she’ll be attending next month which is really nice. I only got to see achi Babs during night time coz she has work during the day. She lent me one of her big watches since the strap of my watch broke about a few weeks ago and can’t use it anymore.  So now I’m finally able to tell time again!!!

Debs room with her in her usual position in front of her computer!

Desserts after dinner at Xin Tian Di

Also met up with a few other Filipinos, one of them was Daddy David (he left mommy Nars alone in Beijing! Tsk tsk! He really must have missed me!), got to see new places, saw one of my Filipino friends jump out in front of the taxi, ate xiao long bao (sorta like mini dumplings), gigantic desserts, argued about paying with Debs, and just hang out with friends.  All in all, it was a fun trip in Shanghai.  Then Friday morning, woke up early for Elaine and my trip to Macau!

We took a plane from Shanghai to Shenzhen, then from there, took a boat to Macau since it's more cheaper.

Traveling...

For the first time, no pictures!!

I’ve been traveling last week and more to come this week that the thought of just staying at home is so nice.  First last Friday I came here to Beijing to visit Nars and buy plane tickets for this week, then went back to Tianjin.  Now I’m back again in Beijing just for the night and gonna go to Shanghai tomorrow for two days then Friday, gonna go to Macau until Sunday then back to Beijing just for a night again then the next day back to Tianjin. Exhausting isn’t it??

Now that I’ve been living in Tianjin for almost a month and going out only a few times and Elaine isn’t here to drag me off to go places, I seem to have become my old self again where I just stay at home and only go out to watch movies and back home, but since there aren’t many good movies showing here and its very expensive, I only go out to buy DVDs and then back home to watch them or go online.  Pair me up with Nars whenever I would visit Beijing means just hanging out at home and doing nothing.

So for the two special people I’m gonna go see in shanghai, sorry if I’m a drag to chat with but I really don’t care where we go or what we do, be it in Shanghai or Macau.  Hanging out with you guys is enough.

I hope I’ll be sent to Shanghai or Beijing to live soon coz traveling isn’t for me.  Just the thought of more traveling after next week makes me tired but the thought of actually living with relatives for a long time gives me indigestion.

Saturday in Beijing

When I woke up this morning Nars was cooking me breakfast!  Bacon and eggs with rice.  It was good but of course afterwards I got “laduzi” but she might not cook for me tomorrow if she hears that I said that, so Nars, it was worth it coz your food was so yummy!.  It’s so good to be home even if just for a few days, with my mommy cooking me breakfast, hearing my daddy lecturing me and a big sister to vent out to! Of course I’ll always be the youngest one and this saying is so right for me! "You can only be young once. But you can always be immature " by Dave Barry.

After breakfast, we went from Tian Le Fu (which wasn’t that nice!), to Wangfujing, to Xiu Shui then Nars and I went back to the apartment coz we were too lazy to go anywhere else and it was too hot outside! So when we got back, I decided to take pictures of their newly cleaned and refurnished apartment! As you can see, most of my time is spent doing nothing!

Then we had dinner at Pizza Hut!  Hua Qing Jia Yuan is actually a nice area to live in coz outside, there are lots of restaurants!  Then we went to our favorite place, the DVD store!  Then seeing as how Nars and I are lazy homebodies, we came back to the apartment to hang out watching dvds.  It was like old times! Especially since Nars fell asleep in the middle of the movie we were watching and slept through the other movies I watched!  Sorry if Nars is always sleeping, but that's her best pose!

Tianjin, Beijing, and nowhere else...

My aunt took me for a walk the other night.  We went to the pier, walked around for a bit then went to the shopping area but had to go home after a while coz my younger cousin wasn't feeling so good.

Yesterday, I came back to Beijing!! My aunt and cousins came with me and took me shopping around the malls which I’ve never been to because we cheap people only shop in the markets!  Then dinner time we ate at the most famous Peking duck place near Tiananmen Square.

Finally arrived at Nars doorstep around 8pm! Yippee!! I knocked at their door but no one answered, so I tried opening the door and it was unlocked.  For an instant, I thought it was the wrong apartment coz it was all dark and an unfamiliar voice called out to someone that there was someone at the door.  So there I was holding a half opened door, unsure of where to go, looking at everything very hard to see if it all seems familiar when suddenly, the door on my right opened and there was my adorable elfin friend coming out of David’s room.  Ah, home sweet home!!

Friends....

Since I don’t seem to have anything to write about, I’ll write about some of the friends I’ve made here. These friends really made my trip here fun and definitely memorable. For those of you who might not understand some of the words here, open up Microsoft Word and use shift F7 like I did!

Nars, my delightful, amusing, adorable, elfin friend whose gigantic heart outweighs her size.  She’s a bit of a feline fond of being motionless and can be found dormant anyplace but most of the time usually can be found scrutinizing inhabitants in the tube.  Partial to having a sterile and hygienic dwelling locale.  Absolutely adores tête-à-tête and it’s her utterance, which can be perceived even through such an extensive fortification that I miss the most!  Silence seems dreary after being devoid of it for so long time.

Laine, my big, older twin sister, my achi Babs, my better or should I say my worst half who envisions herself as a spawn of aristocracy and an illumination to others, my Queen .  She has a penchant for her fingernails and can usually be found playing with them or if not it’s because she’s holding something in her hands, usually involving foods.  The utmost extraordinary roommate ever, easy-going with ears made for listening to our chatters about anything and whose patience can stretch miles especially when it comes to younger sisters squabbling for her attention.

Deb, my Canadian friend obsessed about thongs, my online companion, and still chatting buddy whose outlets of deadly gas in my face I have surely miss.  The loudest outlet of gas ever to be heard contradicts her soft voice which explains where all the sound went.  Adventurous, always raring to go do something or go someplace especially when she hears you speak the word “shopping”.  So enjoyable to be with particularly when she’s doing something crazy.  It’s her name that I would frequently search for once online and whose absence in messenger would mean a gloomy, depressing day for me.

D, the nicest, kindest person I’ve ever encountered. My always smiling never gets angry but serious friend but whose sincerity hides a deep inclination for pulling pranks which I would never have believe if someone mentioned it to me until I saw it myself.  Her sense of humor and ability to discover actions for vengeance instead of being angry at some mischief pulled on her which I greatly admire and would surely like to see again.

Ren, the most adventurous person I know whose energy seems inexhaustible.  She’s so fun-loving, and highly sociable that she is always being stopped every few steps by her friends that she meets along the way that sometimes it would take her hours to finally get to her destination which sometimes include going from the cafeteria to her dorm room. She’s very entertaining and the last couple of months wouldn’t have been the same without her.

Guess whose finger!

So why don’t you all come here and visit me in Tianjin instead of me visiting Beijing or Shanghai .  There might be nothing to do here but at least you’ll all be here to entertain me!

TEDA Library

This is your all your fault! You know who you are! Always telling me to start blogging, humph! Now I’ve started one and I can’t sleep!  So I might as well put up the pictures of the library I went to yesterday.  Let me apologize to those actually coming to this site if all you’ll mostly see here are pictures.  I have nothing to do except as you can see take pictures and upload them! My two other co-workers were as desperate as I am to get out of the office since we're mostly not doing anything there. So yesterday afternoon, we use dropping off some sample products to another company as an excuse to go out and after went to the library until 5pm just in time for work to end!  They’re library is really big and the building is full of glass!  They have english books too but not that many but at least they have the latest Entertainment magazines!

Afterwards, we walked around for a bit and then took a bus back.  The library was just about 10 minutes away by bus.  It was actually fun and nice to finally get some sunshine in the middle of the day.

Nerds

Last Saturday, my aunt took my cousins and me out for shopping and the first place we went to was this little store where they sell Chinese figurines.  My aunt wanted me to find something I like coz she wanted to buy me something but it was kind of expensive though so I didn't know what to get and besides it was kind of hard to choose coz most of the little figurines where of little boys with holes in their pants.  So when she finally chose a figurine for me, I thought I was safe from having to choose something from the store. But I was about to find out how stubborn my aunt can be coz in between choosing her own figurines to give to her friends, she would pass by where I stood and tell me to pick something else that I wanted.  So there I was just standing by the only counter where their figurines are actually worth looking at when I saw something so cute that reminded me of one of my friends.  So then I wondered if I'll find my other friend too. And so I looked and looked until I finally found the nerds!  Here they are!  Aren't they cute?   Guess who they are!

Bored in Tianjin

Here are some pictures of where I am staying.  It’s about 10 minutes away by car to the downtown area and another hour to the inner city.  This picture is taken from our driveway.  Absolutely nothing outside except factories.

This is the office.  It's on the first floor.  Second floor is the dorm for employees.

The outer office.  The door on the left side facing the cubicles is where i work.

Inside that door.  Where I sit all day and "work"!

This is the third floor where my uncle lives.

 Living Room/Dining Room
The door on the left behind the table is my room.

 My room with the Internet!!
Yippeee!!

Hua Jing Jia Yuan

I’m now living in Tianjin for an indefinite period of time, “working” for my uncle.  After staying here for a few days, I decided to visit my friends in Beijingsince its only two hours away out of sheer boredom of doing nothing here and because I needed to get some stuff.  Although that was the wrong weekend to visit them coz they were moving out of our old apartment so I didn't get to do much except help them move and hang out at their new apartment. Here’s a picture of their new bathroom!

Memories

After almost a year in China my friends and I have done a lot of things and this picture shows all the adventures we've been through.  From freezing during winter time last year to getting sunburned summer time this year.  We’ve walked from Tiananmen Square to Xidan, rode a train for 12 hours, a very crowded bus where you're all squeezed together like sardines in a can, and a Chinese tricycle, have gotten lost, got cheated, bungee jumped (not me, just my friends!), climbed a mountain in the middle of the night for 6 hours just to see the sunrise, made friends along the way and have even gotten fat together.  But what this picture really shows is what one can do when one is bored to death!
