First Day in the Apartment in Shanghai

Today
First Day in the Apartment in Shanghai

Mark, Mabel, Manol (Elaine and I standing behind them)
This was taken during our first day in the apartment after Manol and his friends came to visit and look at the apartment. They also live here in the same building. It seems that there's a lot of pinoys living here, probably one in each floor!. We know Manol from Beijing and he was the one who helped us find this apartment.
Flag in The Window

This flag was made by Elaine a few days after we moved in. She cut it from magazines and pasted colors together to make this flag. I forgot where I went, but I left while she was making it. I remember looking up as I was going back to see if she has finished the flag and 'lo and behold, there it was, four floors from the top! Pinoy kami!
Picture on the Wall

A few weeks ago, Elaine was hanging pictures on the wall with the use of a double sided tape. After she hanged one of the pictures, she decided to move it coz it seemed a bit low. When she tried to move it, the paint on the wall came off. So, last week I told Elaine to hang another picture to cover the wall and that was the picture she put taken from one of the magazines coz I didn't want our landlord to see that there's a big paint that came off his wall. He came to fix our heater coz we didn't have hot water that day. Seems the heater only needed new batteries! (Duh!)
Today

It's Sunday today and it seems like everyone in Shanghai was out walking around or shopping! This picture was taken in Nanjing road. There was a lot of people everywhere we went. Soooo crowded! I would've stayed home if I didn't have work tomorrow. Oh well, at least we found another bookstore with English books, but not a lot though.
Yay! Finally got to see Harry Potter 4!! Woke up early this morning just so we can catch the early show coz it’s cheaper before
The best so far! Can't wait for the 5th Harry Potter!! Also can’t wait for the movie Chronicles of Narnia! Hopefully, it will show here and that it will be as good as the book! So far, this has been turning into a great weekend! Last night, out of boredom, we went grocery shopping and ended up in a DVD store where we bought a few DVDs to entertain us and today after the movie, we went to a bookstore which is now my favorite shop here in
Work has been great and fun! Well, except for the part where I thought I accidently deleted some files in the database which made me panic but was just a misunderstanding so whew!
and a few problems which my good friend helped me with
. I can’t say it enough, thanks, thanks, thanks gid Jons!! (also for the company! haven't been bored now that your back to day shift!) Miss ya!! Dako gid pasalubong mo!
Til next time coz....
Gonna Read: The Sucker's Kiss - few more chapters to go!
I’m sitting here in front of my computer which faces the door to the bathroom and I notice Elaine sorting out our laundry and I laugh coz I know that she’s sorting it out coz she’s afraid I might mix the colors with the whites again and she’ll have a new colored shirt!
Anyways, for the last few days, I’ve been waking up irritated coz it seems like our upstairs neighbor are doing some renovating or something so I’ve been waking up to the sounds of drillings and poundings! I like pushing the snooze button of my alarm every morning a few times before actually getting up and get a few more minutes sleep time but now I wake up even before my alarm would go off! Elaine was even more irritated coz she couldn’t go back to sleep that she went to the bedroom, got on the bed and started pounding back at the ceiling with a chair!
At least I’m not home all day to hear the noise or I’d go mad! Despite of the annoying mornings, it’s been a fun weekend coz I mostly spent it reading a good book! Elaine and I would eat somewhere for dinner and then go to a café, buy a drink and just sit there and read. Last Friday we went to Starbucks and tonight we just got back from a café around Jing An Temple where we sat for about two hours just sitting there scanning their magazines then reading the books we brought with us.
Yesterday, as Elaine and I were planning what to do for the day, we decided to go have lunch at the restaurant where they serve the best chocolate malt I’ve ever tasted! (no competition there since I think that’s the first malt I’ve ever tried!) We always plan on the day coz it seems whatever early plans we make would always go awry on the day we are suppose to do it. Anyways, as we were crossing the street to where the bus stop was to go have lunch, we saw the bus we were gonna take passing us, so Elaine said to run and to catch it so that we can say we’ve experience that (manol!), so run we did, and was able to catch it, paid, and took our seats when suddenly, she said, “oops, we took the wrong bus!”. Fool that I was, I just followed her not even thinking about it when this has actually happened before too! It’s like déjà vu! Us running to catch the bus, paying, taking our seats, Elaine blurting out “wrong bus”, us getting off and taking the right bus again. Ok, to be exact, it wasn’t the wrong bus but the right bus, going the wrong direction! Sometimes, I wonder how we ever survived China seeing as we have a lot of bloopers but I guess we balance it out coz it’s either she gets us lost or I do, so far we haven’t both been lost at the same time so until then, we’re surviving China or specifically Shanghai, one day at a time, adding one more blooper to our imaginary list for future reminiscing.
David, an old friend from
. He wants to rent out the other room in our apartment so he came to look at it but since he was staying at a hotel, we invited him to just stay here with us. That was last, last weekend and a few days after, the company he’s going to work for came and got him coz it seems the factory he’s going to work in is about an hour or so away from where we are and his boss wants him to stay at their dorm so that it would be more convenient for him but he doesn’t like it much so for the 2 weeks he’s been here, he spent most of it living here in our place but we don’t mind coz he brought some junk foods from the Philippines! That's it for my weekend.
Currently reading: The Sucker's Kiss by Alan Parker (So far so good! I might stay up and finish reading it but then I have work tomorrow and won't have any more books to read! So gonna read it a bit slow to make it last til I can find another book!
)
Must Read: Monster by Frank Peretti (and all his other books!)... ok I'm biased since he's one of my favorite authors
Seems like some can't open it, so I edited it.... hope this works... it works on my computer anyways.. hehehe that's what matters.. oh well.. if not, i'l edit it again sometime in the future when I have time.. right now, gonna read... or sleep.. hmm... Ok, so I'll just leave this as it is....whichever works... Jons, sorry hehehe... tell me if you get it to work! :)
I’ve been meaning to try something out ever since someone mentioned it to me at work. Just a warning, I’ll just be babbling in this blog so if you don’t want to read, stop now. I just want to make my blog long so this would be worth it Right now, Elaine and I are watching this weird movie, Full Frontal, it’s a bit boring but it just started so it might still get better. Last week after my brother and cousin left, Martina, our roommate before in Beijing, slept over in our apartment coz her dorm is almost two hours away from here and the next day went shopping. Then that night just a few hours after she left, another old friend from Beijing came and stayed with us for a few days until the company he’s gonna work for came and got him. That was two days ago. He wanted to look at our apartment coz he might live with us but he wasn’t sure yet, and since he was staying in a hotel, we just invited him to stay with us coz we weren’t using the bedrooms anyways. Yep, we are still sleeping here on the floor, until now!!
The other day, Elaine, Martina and I went to Figaro (if you don’t know, that’s a Filipino Company!!) for desserts and we came across a book with a bookmark from www.bookcrossings.com. It’s really interesting! It’s about hunting for books in your city or leaving books and letting others read it. Just visit this site too. It’s also really interesting. Elaine started hunting for books left here in Shanghai the other day, well only at Starbuck in Xintiandi coz that’s where the owner said she left it in her page on bookcrossings, but Elaine didn’t find any of the books she left. Are you still with me or bored now?? Anyways, Elaine and I also went to a book store the other day. It was so big! 7 floors!! If they were full of English books, I would be there every weekend; instead, the English section is just a small corner in the 7th floor! Grrrrrrr…. At least, they have more books than other stores. We still have 2 more bookstores to visit coz last time we went, they were closed so have to go early meaning on a weekend! I’m treasuring my weekend now coz that’s the only time I can go out!

Ok, are you still with me? I don’t want to edit what I write coz I’m tired and don’t care much. I just want to try this out! I really really like my job!! Ok, sometimes I get frustrated, nervous, and sleepy at work but I still like it. It’s really interesting. Everyday, well, most days anyways, I learn something about HTMLs and the Internet. It’s tiring thought and my butt is starting to hurt every night from sitting all day. Sometimes though I get nervous coz work would pile up and I’m still not sure which are more important so I sometimes get a bit stressed on what to do. If there’s no work (that was only during the first week of work, right now, I have lots to do!) I would sometimes sit there and read the forum of the site. It’s interesting what people write and what others would comment that sometimes I just sit there with a goofy smile on my face. Visit our site www.shanghaiexpat.com coz it’s the best site in China. :D They also have a new site www.sim6d.com which is an experiment about six degrees of separation meaning there are six people separating us from someone else. I can’t explain coz my mind is a bit numb from thinking but just read it at the site. It’s cool!

HOW TO STAY YOUNG 1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay them. 2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down. (keep this In mind if you are one of those grouches;) 3. Keep learning: Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain get idle. "An idle mind is the devil's workshop." And the devil's name is Alzheimer's! 4. Enjoy the simple things. 5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath. And if you have a friend who makes you laugh, spend lots and Lots of time with HIM/HER. 6. The tears happen: Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourself. LIVE while you are alive. 7. Surround yourself with what you love: Whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge. 8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help. 9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county, to a foreign country, but NOT to where the guilt is. 10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

Oooppsss... accidentally deleted this...
My brother and cousin are going home tomorrow. Seemed like they just got here and now they’re going home but at least I got to see them for a while and show them around Shanghai ! Although I didn’t have time to take them out much because I was busy and there’s not much to see here in Shanghai anyway but at least I was able to take them to see the aquarium and did some shopping too, well mostly it was Elaine who took them shopping, more like they follow her wherever she wants to go.
When Elaine and I are both busy though, they’re at home watching DVDs and using the Internet, which is our family hobby, so they didn’t mind, actually liked it better! Of course I also took them out to eat, my goal was to have them gain weight for the two weeks they were here, and for this week alone, I think I accomplished that!
Anyways, I have to take them to the airport really early tomorrow morning so gonna sleep! Too tired to think!
